How to add courses to Discover

Laatst gewijzigd op

If you want to add a course to Discover go to the course you want to add, choose "Course Tools"  and then choose "Course Admin".

Once you are in the Course Admin part, choose "Course Offering Information".

Once you are in the "Course Offering Information" menu scroll down and check the box:  "Make this course available in Discover...."

Once the course is available in Discover, you can create a link  to the self enrollment. The link always starts with:

https://brightspace.universiteitleiden.nl/d2l/le/discovery/view/course/

Now simply add the 4 or 5 digits of your course at the end of this URL. The four (or five) digits of your course can be found in the address bar of your browser when you are in the course home. These are the digits found after the last slash forward in the URL.

Once you have added the digits of the course the URL looks like this:

https://brightspace.universiteitleiden.nl/d2l/le/discovery/view/course/6742

You are now ready to distribute the link to your users. All users (that have access to the Leiden Brightspace environment)  that click on the link will be able to self enroll in the course.

Users enrolling via Discover for a  course that was created by the integration with uSis will be enrolled with the role 'student observer'.  Student observers can only view all materials in the course, they cannot hand in assignments and will not appear on the class list.

Users enrolling through Discover in a manually created course will be given the role 'student' within that course. Students can fully participate in the course and will appear on the class list of that course.

At the moment it is not possible to add courses to Discover in bulk. We are working on writing a script for that and will adjust this article as soon as bulk management for Discover is available.

When the Discover link in a course is enabled not all students can enroll using this link. Only regular students and staff can use the link to enroll themself in the course. Non-regular students, Compulsory matching students and students using a GMS account are not allowed to enroll in a course using the Discover link. This rule has been initiated as these types of students only follow 1 or 2 courses and usually have no need to enroll in other courses. When you do want to enroll these students in this course you can make a ticket through TOPdesk to request a bulk enrollment.
