Sub-Master Courses

Laatst gewijzigd op

Please note that we provide Sub-Master Courses as a temporary solution until the learning repository is able to store whole courses. This means Sub-Master Courses will not exists as course offerings in the future.

Each faculty has their own two Master Courses, provided with the standard "Leiden Course Model". Faculties can provide standard content in these courses, e.g. like a introduction file for instructors, that are copied in new courses.

Sub-Master Courses provide a solution for faculties where the two Master Courses are not sufficient, since the content or the course structure differs too much between groups of courses. It also provides a solution where whithin a Faculty or Institution there is a hierarchy of tasks and/or responsibilities.

Therefore, Sub-Master Courses can be seen as aid for Bulk Content Management.

What can I do with a Sub-Master Course?

The same rules as for Master Course apply on the Sub-Master Courses:

  • It is not allowed to enroll students in these courses or to store personal/student data
  • However, add content to the course to suit your needs.
  • Delegate work:
    • Enroll a Education Coordinator as an Instructor to Sub-Master Courses to let them build up the Sub-Master Course.

Good to know

  • The uSis Brightspace integration can not automatically copy Sub-Master Courses into your Faculties Courses. -> The copy is always pulled from your faculty's Master Course.
  • When you copy one course to another, it always ADDS to the existing content structure.
    • Keep this in mind while designing your Sub-Master Courses in combination with courses created by the integration.

If you need any adivice or have questions on this matter, please feel free to contact FB SOZ LMS. We can discuss the possibilities and explain the impact of your choices.

An example usecase - Differences between Programmes

A Faculty has 3 different kind of courses that are built up somewhat differently. One group of courses works with sections, one group of courses does not use sections, but uses a Theme Structure and all the other courses use a Week Structure.

    • This course is managed by the LMS Coordinators
  2. The Sub-Master Course for International Studies - content copied from Master Course of FGW
    • This course is managed by the Coordinator of International Studies
    • The Education Coordinator adds specific content on top of the content from the Master Course FGW
  3. The Sub-Master Course for Language Studies - content copied from Master Course of FGW
    • This course is managed by the Coordinator of Language Studies
    • The Education Coordinator adds specific content on top of the content from the Master Course FGW
  4. Courses that all have a copy of the Sub-Master Course for International Studies
